I remember seeing him on Reeces Rainbow when we found Isaac. We decided to add him to our adoption plans. Thanks to a $7000 grant from Reeces Rainbow we were able to add him and give him a forever home. He turned 8 the day he officially became an Averett in China.
Our first night in China was in Nanchang. Our guide picked us up from the airport and took us to our hotel Gloria Grand. We arrived about 11:30pm and tried to sleep but it was so hard with all the horn honking going on outside.
This is the view from out hotel window. Across the water are some tall buildings but they were hard to see until the rain came and cleared the air. Our 1st full day in China the orphanage directors, guide and Gordys foster mother met us in the lobby of the hotel. Gordy was so afraid of us and would not even look at us. We found out that he had been living with his foster family his whole life. I was glad we were able to talk with her about Gordy and she let us know about his schedule, health, likes, and dislikes. She gave him a backpack with some sticker books, pencils, some pictures of him and his foster family and a Sponge Bob doll. Thank goodness we brought our older boys with us to China! They were able to get Gordy to play with them while we talked with Gordys foster mother and orphanage directors. I'm not going to lie...it was so difficult taking him away from the only family he knew, but I know there is no future for him there and in America he will have so much more going for him. It was crazy to see the culture difference for people with disabilities there.
Gordy would not let Dean hold him, Gordy would look at Dean then rub his chin and smile. I guess hes didn't know what to think about his whiskers :). We walked with our guide around town a little, had some lunch and did a little shopping.
While walking we seen city workers sweeping the gutters with these brooms. Dean was amazed to see the wiring.
The sidewalk is also for parking...
and exercise.
Our 3rd day in China we had some official appointments, Finalized Gordys adoption---on his birthday--had some lunch and our guide and hotel got him a birthday cake.
At night when it is clear there are lights that are on the buildings across the water.
Day 4 we took a bullet train to Guangzhou. 4 hour ride over 200 mph and no open land to be seen.
